The Historical experience of our times tells us that the future of the church and all the revealed religions lies in the hand of theologically well-formed lay people. After the Vatican Council II we have witnessed a gradual emergence of lay ministry in church. This phenomenon seems to be equally true and evident in the West, Africa and Asia. Therefore it is the vision and Dream of Maktaba-e-Anaveem Pakistan that twenty first century will be the century of the Laity in the Church.
With this sense of history and vision MAP was born as the most urgent and a meaningful need of the local church and the Laity. The clerical and the religious ministry in the church started at a historical period when the state was not responsible for the welfare of its citizens. Thus the ministry in the church was introduced to give social protection and pastoral care to the Christians who were persecuted and outcaste. But after emergence of "Modern Welfare State", government and state become responsible for its citizens. Therefore, the ultimate goal of the church ministry should be to empower people for realization of their human rights and development.
The Papal Teaching and document on the Laity and the FABC have time and again stressed faith formation, evangelisation and spiritual care through theological formation and training for the people and social action.
The cliche "option for the poor" when truly translated into praxis, accelerates the pace of coming of the kingdom of God; which in the words of Edward Schillebeecks is the "well being of people". Although the Kingdom of God cannot be reduced to earthly wellbeing it must include or strive for such well being which does include moral and intellectual well being (Luke 22:52).
Rooted in and resting on a deep theological reflection and foundation MAP developed into a strong lay theological movement for empowerment of the laity and strengthening the local church. In order to archive this end The Map ministry geared towards building and promoting people's networking at the grass root level, thereby empowering them for social transformation.
Fortunately, MAP has been able to keep alive its curiosity for discovering and re-discovering its mission and its applicability to Pakistani context.
"That where there is not vision, the people perish" (Proverb 29:18). It is only vision that motivates, strengthens, empowers and makes people act and move ahead. MAP vision is well defined and rooted in Christ's Vision and Church ministry. While approaching towards Third Millennium, MAP is sensitive and alive for the realization of its goals and objectives.
These information contains an introduction of MAP, its nature and praxis, vision, rationale and objectives, its activities and achievements so as to give an account of what MAP is all about.
All people of God, who encourage, support and share such goals and vision, are welcomed to be our brothers and sisters, supporters, partners, benefactors and beneficiaries.
May the vision of MAP live on.
